It's official: 100 Songs 2012 has kicked off

The lights were hot and the air conditioning freezing, creating a perfect Goldilocks temperature for some of Brisbane's most talented artists to showcase their skills.  From the SEALS' upbeat, jangly harmonies to the retrospective lyricism of Our Ithaca Creek, the music that soon filled the air, was just right.

Age, experience and occupation are no barriers to creating good music, and herein lies the brilliance of 100 Songs - its single qualifying factor is skill. Hence, a diverse range of musicians of all ages and walks of life from hobbyists and teachers to professional musicians (these are obscure people who actually make a living out of playing music), spent 16 hours performing and recording their original compositions for Day 001 of 100 Songs.

Phenomenal musical talent was the order of the day and B Studio in particular rocked out, with all their bands recording two songs in their sessions.  Some highlights included Aurora and Daisy, the twin sister act that provided endless entertainment both on and off the air and Angharad's emotive lyrical and musical content.

When the extremely attractive girl band, Go Violets appeared for the night shift, people were suddenly wide awake and falling over each other to interview them. But dispel any thoughts of them being just another 'girl band', because for this indie rock band, it's all about the music.

By this time, hunger was making itself known, and when pizza arrived, it was literally inhaled - as were packets of dry biscuits - which is testament to the levels of hunger amongst artists and producers. Scene Magazine took advantage of the lull (and the pizza), to interview folk band Alex Bell and have a laugh.

Later in the evening, disaster struck: the Red Bull fridge was discovered sans Red Bull, and grown men were seen to shed a tear as they contemplated the long Red-Bull-free hours ahead.  Hopefully tomorrow will see it restocked to its former glory.

19 hours after kickoff, the last weary producers headed home for a few hours sleep before returning tomorrow to do it all again.

Quote of the day: "It feels like it should be further on in the week, at least three or four days past Sunday, but it's still the same day!"

See you all tomorrow [today].
