Bio
Dan Acfield is a songwriter, vocalist and guitarist from Brisbane, Australia. An impulsive traveller and compulsive singer, Dan accepted his troubadour destiny at an early age. Even before he was old enough to speak, Dan had managed to amuse his parents with irrepressible car karaoke, and in a TV-free home environment, he took up songwriting at the early age of 9.
Following in the footsteps of musical ancestors (ranging from a New York hymnwriting orchestral musician, to a grandfather who played bass for everyone from Cat Stevens to Kamahl), Dan attended music school. Armed with a healthy combination of both respect and scepticism, Dan transitioned from his studies into the Brisbane music scene confidently, emerging as an enthusiastic champion of tidy pop-rock anthems.
Dan's knack for teaming catchy guitar hooks with interesting but unpretentious lyrics has already earned him the attention of local music aficionados, as well as a Highly Commended (Rock Category) in the 2010 QSong Awards.
Dan's career since graduation has involved the penning of two EPs (released under the moniker Dear April, his old band), as well as performances at all the usual indiefriendly venues throughout Brisbane and regional Queensland.
Dear April's Self-titled first EP and the follow-up 'Look. Listen. Begin.' received solid support from multiple community radio stations along the east Coast of Australia. Recorded in collaboration with producer Brendan Anthony (INXS, Midnight Oil, George), 'Look. Listen. Begin.' provided a musical narrative of Acfield's songwriting development from acoustic, folk-pop roots to more mature and layered rock arrangements.
That project's swansong is out now ? the energetic single Red Yellow & Blue, accompanied by a kicking video clip. Now walking his own path with new collaborators, Dan Acfield has begun writing and recording his first solo record, an EP set for release in mid 2011. He is also working on an acoustic duo project with his sister, acclaimed vocalist Hannah Acfield.
